Urban Form Through Collage
Site Location: Cherry Hill Neighborhood, Baltimore, Maryland
For this project I utilized a new process of working to achieve a proposal for a intervention typology in the Cherry Hill neighborhood. The residential areas of the community are very spread out, and two main roads separate the existing hospital and the main commercial district from the community itself. In order to remove myself from the unsuccessful existing conditions, I began to design through a different lens. By starting with a collage and going through different focusing passes I started with the core idea of vista points and viewports, and began the series of collages with a digital overlay of forms. By bringing more urban context and strategies into each consecutive pass with my collages, I was able to create a new densified urban plan organized around three main vista towers, and two secondary towers within the community to draw people in.
